In the hit game Portal by Valve, you play a test subject that’s trying to pass a number of tests thrown at you. Somewhere down the line you’re given a cube called the “Companion Cube”, and this cube is supposed to be your best friend. Unfortunately, one of your tests had you throw it into the incinerator.

In short? You killed your best friend. You killed the Companion Cube.

Now, throughout the game a computer voice speaks to you, detailing each test and its goal. Sometimes encouraging, sometimes taunting and sometimes mean. After the Companion Cube incident, it isn’t uncommon for that voice to remind you of your guilty act.

I… I couldn’t take the guilt… I had to find a way to bring the companion cube back to life…
